[April 2008]

The 2006 General Assembly decided to:

"Oppose the creation for research or therapy of parthenogenetic human embryos, animal-human hybrid or chimeric embryos, or human embryos that have been deliberately made non-viable."

The 2007 General Assembly re-emphasised its opposition to the creation of these embryos with the following deliverance:

"Freshly urge Her Majesty’s Government in the proposed revision of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act not to include a legislative provision which would allow the creation for research or therapy of parthenogenetic human embryos, animal-human hybrid or chimeric embryos or embryos that have been deliberately made non-viable."

Services marking Civil Partnerships

Forward Together can be incredibly proud of our chairman.  Without a shadow of doubt the Lord has given us a gifted leader in Gordon.

Gordon argued so well, so winsomely, so biblically.  His motion presented during the Legal Questions debate fell but only by 8 votes.

However, our secretary Ian Watson was ready with a Barrier Act motion, which won the day.

This means that the Legal Question Act is not enacted.  It goes down to the Presbyteries for consideration by the wider church.

This needs to be made clear -  the church did not approve "gay weddings".

Concern about Kirk's civil partnership plans
Some of you will know that a letter has been circulated inviting support of comments about the report of the Legal Questions Committee to the forth coming General Assembly. A copy of this letter can be found on the Rutherford House website. Many ministers in Scotland and beyond have already signed this letter. Clearly there is great depth of concern about this report and its implications for our Church.

At our last meeting the Steering Group agreed a strategy to oppose this report and have been preparing information for members and Commissioners to the General Assembly which will be available soon. The Steering Group will keep members of Forward Together informed of our strategy as we approach the General Assembly this year.

Please pray for our Church and for our approach to the General Assembly that all we say and do may be honouring and pleasing to our God and our Lord Jesus Christ.
